North Island Indulgence Tour
Quality accommodation
The accommodation partners that Cycle Turismo has selected have luxury or deluxe ratings. The majority of these are unique boutique lodgings often within or surrounded by working vineyards, and available to Cycle Turismo only because of our Small Group Tour policy.
As a rule we avoid hotel accommodation outside of major metropolitan areas, preferring the ambience, atmosphere and friendliness of smaller offerings.
We base ourselves in one place for several days allowing you to enjoy the best cycling, food and wine in that region. No getting up every morning and moving on. There's less time spent packing and more time to indulge and relax.
Here is a flavour of the sort of Accommodation that we will arrange for you. Let us know if you have any preferences and we’ll endeavour to arrange these for you. (All accommodation options are subject to availability on the selected dates of course.)

Breckenridge Lodge
Our host Malcolm Redmond invites you to relax and enjoy luxurious, private accommodation featuring exquisite wine and food. Breckenridge Lodge is nestled in the picturesque valley of Omarunui, commanding ever-changing views over the vineyard directly below the Lodge and surrounding orchard and rural landscape stretching as far as the Kaweka Ranges. Imagine the ambience of Tuscany in amongst the fresh green hills of New Zealand countryside!

Black Barn Retreat
The Black Barn Retreat is located right in the heart of the Black Barn Vineyard. Surrounded by grapes, almond trees, olive trees and citrus it looks out from its slight rise above the vines to a vista that stretches right across the beautiful province of Hawke's Bay. It looks from the snow-capped mountains in the west to the ocean and river valleys in the east. The Black Barn is just 5 minutes from the quaint and historic village of Havelock North. It is set right in the heart of New Zealand's premier wine region and many of New Zealand's most famous wine names are literally on your doorstep. Beautiful beaches, golf courses, trout fishing rivers and shopping are all just minutes away.

Craggy Range Retreats
Nestled amongst the vines at Giants Winery with views of Te Mata Peak and the Tuki Tuki river valley is the twin luxury boutique self-contained cottages that form Craggy Range Retreats. Enjoy the complimentary breakfast in the comfort of the cottage then stroll to Terrôir restaurant for lunch and dinner, or relax on your own terrace with room service. As a guest you’ll enjoy complimentary wine tasting of the Craggy Range single vineyard wines. Only five minutes drive from Havelock North and 20 minutes from Napier city, the cottage is well situated to indulge in fly fishing, wine tours or simply relaxing in the countryside.

Parehua Country Estate
Amongst the vines, Parehua is just 10 minutes easy stroll to the restaurants, cafes and boutiques of historic Martinborough Wine Village. Open the door to your own luxurious and private haven. Exclusive suites, cottages and villas, overlook lush fields, a private willow-fringed lake and the nearby Tararua ranges. Designed for seclusion and utmost comfort, relax and pamper yourself in your own private outdoor cedar hot-tub overlooking the lake. On cool days soak up the warmth in your spacious living area with a cosy fireplace for your indulgence.

Ohtel
Ohtel is a brand new 10-room Boutique Hotel located in the capital city's exclusive seaside neighbourhood of Oriental Bay, providing true international class urban chic. Host Alan Blundell worked for 22 years in Architecture and during numerous trips abroad was exposed to some exciting new trends in Hotel accommodation, for instance the famous designers Phillipe Starck and Ian Schrager who were creating dynamic, hip accommodation at some of the world's most popular addresses. Ohtel is Alan's answer to demands by visitors and locals for a real place to stay in Wellington.
Recommended Accommodation Option:
Wharekauhau Lodge and Country Estate – voted "one of the very best in the world" by Condé Nast Traveler (USA) readers.
A very popular option is to stay at the world class Wharekauhau Lodge on Day 7. We will provide the transfer to the lodge after a celebratory toast at the Lake Ferry Pub. Costs start from an additional $800 per person (twin share) for the first nights stay, which includes Pre-dinner drinks and canapés and a four course gourmet dinner.
The concierge at Wharekauhau can arrange transfers back to Wellington (not included in tariff). We recommend the 6 minute helicopter option – a thrilling way to finish your trip.
Contact us at Cycle Turismo if you would like to discuss this option.
